Openpit

How Openpit works

Connect your brokerage account once. Every trade is detected automatically — verified at the source, published within seconds of fill.

The flow

01

Connect your broker

Authorize Openpit with read-only API access to your brokerage account. We use OAuth where available — you never share your password. Takes under 60 seconds.

02

Fill is detected automatically

The moment your order fills, Openpit detects it via the brokerage API. Fill price, quantity, symbol, and strategy type are captured directly from the broker — no manual entry required.

03

You get 30 seconds to publish

A notification fires the instant your fill is detected. You have 30 seconds to review the declaration and choose to publish it publicly or keep it private. You are always in control.

04

It appears on the live feed

Published trades show up on the Openpit live feed with a "Verified fill" badge — meaning the data came directly from your broker, not from a manual log. Subscribers see the full detail. Public visitors see the direction, symbol (if you allow it), and strategy.

Privacy & security

🔒

Read-only access

Openpit requests the minimum API scope needed to read order fills. We cannot view your balance, personal details, or place any trades.

🏦

No credentials stored

We use OAuth tokens where available. Your brokerage username and password are never seen or stored by Openpit.

👁

You control what's public

Every fill goes through your 30-second review window before anything is published. Symbol, quantity, and premium are all individually togglable in your privacy settings.

🔑

Revoke at any time

Disconnect your broker from your settings page at any time. Revoking access removes all API tokens immediately.

FAQ

What if I trade at multiple brokers?

You can connect multiple accounts from different brokers. Each fill is attributed to the correct account and shown as a separate feed card. Your leaderboard stats combine all connected accounts.

Do I have to publish every trade?

No. Every fill goes through your 30-second review window. You can skip any trade and it stays completely private. You're always in control of what appears on your public profile.

How fast does Openpit detect a fill?

Typically 1–5 seconds after your broker confirms the fill, depending on the broker API's event stream. Most connections are real-time webhook-based, not polled.

Can I add trades from before I connected my broker?

Yes. You can upload historical trades from your broker's export or CSV. Historical trades are clearly labeled so viewers know they predate your Openpit connection.

What if the API connection drops?

Openpit monitors connection health and notifies you immediately if a broker connection goes offline. Fills that occurred during a disconnection can be recovered from your broker's trade history on reconnect.

Is my account number or balance ever visible?

Never. Openpit only reads order fills — the ticker, quantity, fill price, and timestamp. Account numbers, balances, and personal data are never accessed or stored.

Can I use Openpit without a brokerage connection?

During beta, traders on unsupported brokers can use our manual import or Google Sheet connector as a temporary fallback. This will be phased out once all major brokers are supported.
